Preparing your stay
Public transport + bike
Opt to get around using public transport for a stay during which you won’t then have to worry about where to park your car, instead using a mix of public transport + cycling. Find out about the various services that may be of use and how to locate them:
- Bike rentals and repairers
- Electric charging stations or points
- Picnic areas and water supply points
- Options for getting back to your starting point (taxis, luggage transporters, etc.) if going on a one-way cycle trip. Think ahead about the transport you’ll need to take to make it back to your starting point.
Tips
Choose the right bike for you, with a comfortable saddle. Also consider the option of an electric bike so that you can enjoy your adventure to the full with ease!
Pack light and don’t forget that you can rent bikes with panniers, making your trip more comfortable.
Book your accommodation in advance
Consult our list of Accueil Vélo-accredited accommodation providers; they have facilities specially tailored to cyclists and ensure a warm welcome. Among services they offer are a secure shelter for your bike(s), ready-prepared picnic baskets to take with you, and more.
Tips
Think ahead as to where you want to eat too. Stay in accommodation where breakfast is provided, ready-prepared picnic baskets are an option for lunch, and where an evening meal is available (such as at B&Bs offering table d'hôtes dining). That way, you don’t have to worry about such practicalities on a packed day’s cycling. For the chance to meet people living in the area you’re cycling through, consider a B&B with meal provided.
