Description

Situated between Avignon, Arles and Nîmes, the town of Tarascon was built on the banks of the Rhône. Once the residence of King René, it is now a town that reflects its royal past, values the preservation of its traditions and keeps its heritage of craftsmanship and history alive. With over forty listed monuments, it is every bit as impressive as the major cities in the surrounding area. A land of history and legends, with its legendary monster, the Tarasque, and its famous Tartarin of Tarascon, it boasts several unmissable sites to explore. King René’s Castle, the Cordeliers, the Church of Sainte-Marthe, the Souleiado Museum and the Abbey of Saint-Michel de Frigolet all bear witness to the authenticity of a town with a distinct character.

A number of festivals punctuate the year and celebrate Tarascon’s Provençal spirit, such as the Fêtes de la Tarasque at the end of June or its unrivalled Marché aux Santons at the end of the year.

It is also the starting or finishing point for lovely walks or cycle rides.
