New stretches and works in progress
To find out all about the state of signposting and the state of the surfaces along the route, plus advice on avoiding difficult stretches, please read this section.
The Méditerranée à vélo cycle route is composed of greenways, cycle paths and, in parts, stretches on small, quiet roads.
- On the maps dedicated to the various stages, you can find detailed information on the route and those stretches that are separate from roads (i.e. reserved for bikes) as well as those that are on roads.
- The stage descriptions supplement the information given here on the laying out of new stretches and new signposting, as well as indicating if there are specific difficulties to take into consideration.
- Finally, the different stages are categorized according to their level of difficulty: I’m starting out / With the family ; I’m used to cycling; and It’s steep / I’m used to climbing (on the sections of the hinterland in Provence and the Var, and along the Middle Corniche between Nice and Menton)

Update of 20/01/2025
Pyrénées-Orientales : the route is signposted. Some discontinuities of marking in the crossing of agglomerations (Argelès-sur-Mer mainly). Work in progress at Saint-Génis-des-Fontaines to continue the greenway south of the town. No impact on cyclists' traffic ; a provisional route is signposted. Upgrading the signposting is scheduled to cross the Barcarès.
Development of the greenway "Es têt" on the banks of the river : 8 km section planned for 2025 from Canet-en-Roussillon to Bompas, connecting the Mediterranean by bicycle to Perpignan. The continuity is currently ensured by the cycle path between Sainte-Marie-la-Mer and Bompas.
Aude : the route is signposted. Follow the Canal de la Robine between Port-la-Nouvelle and Narbonne and the Canal du Midi between Argeliers and Béziers. Caution at Leucate : the passage along the railway is very rough and subject to weather, it is reserved for cyclists who are keen on off-road or adventure. It is advisable to travel by train the few kilometers that connect Leucate to Port-La-Nouvelle (possibility to carry on bicycles).
On the Canal du Midi, a first section linking Argens-Minervois to Argeliers (25 km) has been upgraded by the County : reopening of banks, new paving, new plantations, etc. Other works, between Homps and the Seuil de Naurouze, focused on the tread pattern and improved the comfort of the route, pending restoration work on the tree vault planned for the coming years.
Hérault : the route is signposted. Along the Canal du Midi, provisional arrangements were made by the County, from Quarante to Colombiers, from Port Cassafières to Portiragnes to Vias, from Vias to Marseillan-plage through the lock of Bagnas, to widen the towpath or and to put a compacted natural grave (gravel).
Exceptions to these adjustments are the following sections :
• From the Pigasse relay to Ouveillan until Quarante : narrow unpaved road
• From the East exit of Capestang to the Trésille Bridge (RD11) : wider but unpaved road
• From the Trésille bridge to Poilhes : untreated hoist, occasionally diverted on the side
• Near the Malpas tunnel : recommended foot along the work
• Crossing of Agde and the banks of the Hérault : unpaved roadGard : the route is signposted. Some misalignment of the temporary route between Gallician and Beaucaire. Works are underway to connect Bellegarde to Gallician along the Canal du Rhône à Sète. Opening of the greenway planned for autumn 2025.
Stage Le Grau-du-Roi => Beaucaire-Tarascon : see news about the works in progress (update of 21/01/2025).
Bouches-du-Rhône : the route is signposted. Provisional route between Tarascon and Saint-Etienne-du-Grès and along the territory of Mollégès.
Vaucluse : the route is signposted. New developments have been made in Cavaillon to allow a safe arrival at the "Melon roundabout" : 700 m of cycle path with continuity by circumvention of the roundabout, which now mark the entrance into the county, at the exit of the Pont de la Durance. Extension of 550m of the existing greenway on the old railway, to connect in the future the railstation of Cavaillon.
Alpes de Haute-Provence : the route is signposted. After crossing Manosque, a section of bike path is developed along the D907 to the roundabout of "Quatre chemins". Warning : beyond the roundabout, the route stops. To continue the adventure towards the Var, it is strongly advised to take a train between Manosque and Meyrargues (possibility to carry on bicycles).
Var : the route is signposted. Between Draguignan and Le Tignet, provisional route in place with signposting. Works in progress between Rians and Artigues to continue the bike path on the old railway. No impact on cyclists' traffic.
- Alpes-Maritimes : the route is signposted. Provisional route between Nice and Menton in place with signposting. Works in progress on the town of Menton (RD 6007 - Bonaparte dock), to realize a new section of 400m. Cycling traffic on the roads as before. Work planned until late April 2025.
